Corentin successfully completes his daring voyage

Friendship and TaraTari shipyard is pleased to announce the successful completion of Corentin Dechatel Perron’s daring journey from Bangladesh to France on a 9mx2m sail boat made at the TaraTari shipyard on 13th February 2010.  The unique, currently one-of-a-kind boat is made with 40% jute and 60% fibreglass.

The purpose of Corentin’s journey was not only to go on a great adventure but promote the work of the research and development centre that TaraTari is launching in collaboration with VPLP, a leading boat designing firm in France, in order to develop boats made out of eco-friendly, locally produced materials coupled with new technologies, for Bangladesh.  Additionally, Corentin’s journey raised awareness on the importance of boats in Bangladesh, and the need to develop boats that will improve the socio-economic conditions of people living in the vulnerable coastal and riverine areas of the country.

Corentin successfully reached at La Ciotat, a Mediterranean harbour on 18th August, 2010. Marc Van Peteghem of VPLP has a chamber near the harbour where a little ceremony were held to welcome Coretin back home and celebrate the successful completion of his journey.

Corentin followed the same route back to France, which Yves Marre followed for his journey from France to Bangladesh back in 1994.  Corentin left Bangladesh, and crossed Sri Lanka, Oman, Egypt, crossed the Suez Canal onto the Mediterranean Sea finally reaching France.
